Welcome to Essex House Medical Centre

In addition to 5 GPs, a Nurse Practitioner and an ECP, we are also a teaching practice training GP Registrars, Medical and Nursing students.

Practice Information

The practice was founded around 100 years ago, and was originally in Monmouth House, now part of Chard School. The present Medical Centre was developed in 1993, adjacent to the site of the old surgery and maintaining our town centre position. The surgery serves a catchment area of approximately 6/7 miles radius, where we aim to supply a high standard of health care and service for our community.

You can use our online consultation service for non-urgent enquiries and we will aim to respond within 72 hours.

We are sad to say that Dr Barwise will be leaving the Practice at the end of March. Dr Barwise has been at the Practice for nearly 10 years and has been a great support to the team and her patients.
We will be collating messages from patients and colleagues to add to a leaving book. If you would like to leave a message for Dr Barwise, please email
I am sure you will join the Practice in wishing Dr Barwise all the very best for her next venture.πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰
The remaining GPs will be looking after patients currently allocated to Dr Barwise whilst we look to recruit another GP.
